Join us at Possum’s Store for an intimate evening of extraordinary musicianship, soulful vocals, and the rich musical traditions of Brazil with São Não São, featuring vocalist Laura Ann Singh, guitarist and vocalist Bruno Alcalde, and celebrated pianist Marlysse Simmons.

Described by The Guardian as a “distinctive new voice in jazz,” Laura Ann Singh is a vocalist, songwriter, and multilingual interpreter of song whose artistry moves effortlessly across jazz, Brazilian and Latin American music, the American Songbook, and original compositions. A founding member of Miramar, she has appeared on NPR’s Tiny Desk and collaborated with an impressive range of acclaimed musicians. Singh also teaches voice in the Jazz Studies Department at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Originally from Porto Alegre, Brazil, Bruno Alcalde is a guitarist, composer, and music theorist whose work draws on Brazil’s rich musical heritage while exploring contemporary sounds and creative possibilities. An Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Richmond, Bruno brings a deep understanding of Brazilian traditions and a distinctive artistic voice to every performance.

Joining Laura Ann and Bruno is Marlysse Simmons, a celebrated composer and pianist known for her work with Bio Ritmo and Miramar. Together, these three accomplished musicians create a captivating musical experience that celebrates the diversity, beauty, and spirit of Brazilian music.

Blending original compositions with classic bossa nova and beloved Brazilian popular songs, São Não São invites audiences into a world of intricate rhythms, beautiful melodies, rich harmonies, and spontaneous musical discovery.
